Fantastic free fun, fine food and a festival feel are set to make this year’s Newport Show a great day out for all ages.

Award-winning Newport Show promises finest food, music, and family fun

The Show – Shropshire’s finest farming and family festival – returns on Saturday, July 11, with organisers working to put the finishing touches to another great day.

Chosen as the Best Rural or Farming event of the Year at the inaugural Farmer Rural Awards in 2025 the show has long been a highlight of the summer calendar – and this year’s event looks set to continue that tradition.

Show Organiser Sally Western said: “One of the things our visitors tell us the love about the show is the chance to catch some great live music as they make their way round the site.

“This year is no different, and we’ve got local favourites Something 4 The Weekend, David Busby, Daniel James and Willow Station all performing around the site throughout the day – meaning people can enjoy the festival feel of the show as they shop, dine, and take in the attractions.”

There are more than 50 different free activities to enjoy throughout the day, whether that’s trying your hand at a new pastime in the Country Sports area or watching celebrity chef Rosemary Shrager cooking up a treat in in the Festival of Food area.

The popular Sheep Show, a live educational experience about sheep and wool, will once again be returning – and, weather allowing, the traditional RAF flypast will again take to the skies above the showground.

With plenty for younger visitors, such as facepainting, circus skills and the chance to test their stunt bike skills with experts, the day promises fun for all the family.

In the Education area, 2026’s close-fought Potato Growing competition will culminate with schools across the region waiting to find out who has grown this year’s heaviest crop of potatoes – and won gardening equipment for their school.

This year has once again seen entries from Lilleshall Primary School, Tibberton Primary School, St Peter’s Primary Edgmond, Newport Junior School, Moorfield School, St Lawrence, Newport Infants’ School, Church Aston Infants’ School, St Peters & St Pauls Primary School, St Luke’s Trench, Muxton Primary School, Haberdashers Castle House School, Newport Girls High School, Burton Borough School, Haberdashers Adams Grammar, Woodseaves Academy, Sheriffhales Primary, Hinstock and Cheswardine Primary Schools.

Sally added: “It’s great to see how popular the potato growing competition proves with youngsters every year – it really shows how our local community forms part of the event, as well as encouraging pupils to think about where the food they eat comes from!”

With just over a month to go until Show Day, organisers are reminding competition entrants to check the closing dates for their category.

Cattle and Sheep entries close on June 19, Horses on June 21, Canine and Dog Show classes on June 22 and entries for the new Rural Lifestyle tent on July 3.
