Twenty-four year old Lizzie Pickering has opened her first business venture – May Blossom – in Church Street, Shifnal, selling a range of vintage collectables for the home.

May Blossom opens in June! ... Shifnal’s Shabby Chic!!!

The shop, in one of the oldest streets in Shifnal, stocks a variety of textiles, glassware and china, with everything from paintings, quilts and vases to candlesticks, plates and wicker picnic baskets.

Lizzie said: “My love of visiting auctions and antique shops has led to me starting my own business in the vintage/retro marketplace. I love things that have a history and that are unique, and I believe that people are fascinated by everyday items from yesteryear that still provide great visual appeal and practical use.

"I like to think of my business as the ultimate recycling for the home! May Blossom offers the ideal setting to show off their potential for the home or garden. Everything I sell has its own story to tell and I imagine the many people that have enjoyed them. I am passionate about what I buy, which makes it easy to sell, as I am inspired by the way things were made in past times, and were often passed down through the generations.

"I am always looking for new stock, so I would love to hear from anyone with a vintage item to sell (maybe from a house clearance) – and I also offer a service sourcing vintage items for people who can’t find what they are looking for in the shop. They can contact me on 01952 461424. My next ambition is to visit France and stock up on some chic vintage home ware!

"I will also be stocking soaps with quirky fragrances such as Lemon Drizzle Cake and Cucumber Sandwiches! ... and candles with a rose, lavender or fig fragrance. Finally I would also be interested to hear from local craftsmen and women, particularly artisans who work in pottery and glass as I would love to stock local work to the people of Shropshire and the West Midlands”.

Mayblossom is open Tuesday to Friday, between 9.30am and 5pm, and Saturdays from 10.30am to 4pm, and has a brand-new website at www.mayblossom.co.uk
