Young Shrewsbury man learns for the future with help from County Training
A young man from Shrewsbury has recently started a childcare apprenticeship at a Shrewsbury based nursery.

With help from County Training, Mark Evans, 17, from Lancaster Road Shrewsbury, has been busy gaining skills and has recently secured an apprenticeship at Tiddlywinks Nursery on Yeamanry Road, Shrewsbury.
After leaving school, Mark decided he wanted to work with children, and was keen to continue learning to enhance his skills to gain employment. Mark joined County Training’s Skill Up programme designed to help 16 – 18 year olds reach their career goals.
‘Skill Up’ is a tailored programme which provides young people with the opportunity to build their confidence through positive achievements, enabling them to fulfil their potential through learning.
Amanda Davidson, Training Advisor at County Training said; “Mark has worked very hard to secure his apprenticeship. He has 100% attendance on programme, and he even attended a training session with a broken collar bone –demonstrating how committed he is to progressing in his chosen career!
Mark said “Skill Up’ has been brilliant, the staff are friendly and supportive and I am thrilled to be working at Tiddlywinks. While I was on the Skill Up programme I achieved a certificate in Personal and Social Development and qualifications in Maths and English functional skills.
Mark’s role as a Childcare Assistant involves caring for the pre-school children, feeding, dressing, sleeping, washing and supporting the child development and learning experiences provided for the children. He also helps with the care and maintenance of classroom equipment, supplies and play yard.
Councillor Karen Burgoyne, Portfolio Holder for Education and Skills commented “The Skill Up programme runs throughout Shropshire and County Training are always seeking local business’ to embrace their social responsibility and support this hugely valuable programme. A well trained, extra pair of hands could make a real difference to your businesses success. Staff with the right skills for the job can take on a wider range of tasks and responsibilities which can reduce skill shortages, minimise staff turnover and increase productivity.”
