Two Shropshire sole-traders team up to help other businesses beat the recession

Two Shropshire sole-traders have teamed up to help other businesses beat the recession by giving them an insight into their roles.

Rhea Alton, of Journalism and PR, and Chimene Felton, of Business Bee Resources, will run a one day course on Public Relations and how to use it effectively through social media. All delegates, whether they already have social media accounts or not, are being asked to bring along their lap-tops as the course will be hands on.

Rhea said: “The recession has hit businesses hard and many are having to look at ways of saving money while still trying to survive. As a PR consultant my role is to help people to save money while still advertising their business and boosting their client base.

“But there are a lot of sole-traders and small businesses who have the time to do their own PR but just lack the skills to get started – this course is ideal for them.”

Chimene, who has worked with a number of businessmen and women in the county struggling to get the hang of social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook and Linked-in, will help delegates to set up or improve accounts and show them how to advertise themselves through them.

She said: “Social media is fast becoming the way people look for businesses and hundreds of businesses are reaping the benefits.

“This course will help some of Shropshire’s smaller businesses make their mark on the social media scene.”

The course will be held on July 25 at the Rural Enterprise Centre on Battlefield Enterprise Park, Shrewsbury in two stages. The morning session, 9.30am to 12.30pm, will introduce delegates to how PR skills can work to their advantage and using local media to boost their client base and the afternoon session, 1.30pm to 4.30pm, will be a
workshop to develop social media skills and use those skills in PR.

Each session costs £40 per person and both sessions can be booked for £75 or £80 to include a networking lunch.
