Wrekin Housing Trust employees raise thousands for charity
Every year employees at The Wrekin Housing Trust get together in their own time to raise as much money as possible for Macmillan Cancer Support, and this year was no exception with staff smashing last year’s total and raising a phenomenal £3,008 for the charity.
Organised primarily by the central finance team, numerous events take place during the same week as Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. Employees from across the organisation including head office, its shops, schemes and trades all gave generously to reach the final sum, believed to be the largest raised in the county.
The week got off to a sweet start after the finance team brought in homemade sweets including childhood favourites such as sugar mice. There was also a ‘cash for clothes’ collection, where staff brought in donation bags, these were then weighed and turned into cash. By midweek the fundraising total was building nicely, helped along by a lunchtime treasure hunt and BBQ, the food for which was donated by suppliers and all proceeds went straight to the charity.
Staff had baked all manner of sweet delights for the annual cake sale on Thursday, boosting the total gain along with everyone’s blood sugar levels.
A bottle tombola and a huge prize raffle, again made up of donated prizes completed the fundraising efforts at head office; but that wasn’t the end of the fundraising story.
The South area team held a cake sale and raffle which added nearly £200 to the fundraising pot and the Woodside team arranged a fundraising morning at the Park Lane centre raising over £50. Out on the schemes Turnpike Court, Lawndale and Hallcroft Close each held coffee mornings too, involving residents in the fundraising.
Employee Andrea Martin perhaps went the furthest, literally, by taking part in the Great North Run for the charity.
The team involved in organising the week-long event would like to thank everyone who took part in whatever form from donating prizes to buying a slice of cake. The phenomenal amount raised simply wouldn’t have happened without everyone’s generous support.
