Environmentally friendly recycling is a big hit for May Blossom!

Lizzie Pickering has been running her vintage homeware and gift shop, May Blossom, in Church Street, Shifnal, since June and it’s proving to be a great success.

Environmentally friendly recycling is a big hit for May Blossom!

Lizzie believes one reason the shop is doing so well is the environmentally friendly element of vintage and handmade items.

As well as the antique and vintage pieces Lizzie sources she also encourages local craftsmen and women who upcycle vintage items such as cake stands made with vintage china, upcycled glass bowls and photo frames, aprons, buntings and bags made with vintage fabric, handmade soaps on vintage plates as well as handmade cards using recycled materials all packaged in biodegradable, recyclable bags, Lizzie says “you just remove the handles and they can be put in your compost bin!”

These pieces have been given a new purpose and a place in modern homes, providing great visual appeal and practical use. May Blossom also sells bigger pieces like antique armchairs recovered in modern fabrics and painted vintage furniture, as well as providing a sourcing service, finding specific pieces for customers.

Lizzie says “why waste resources making new things when we can recycle antique and vintage pieces, which are unique, interesting and well crafted, and also make great Christmas presents!”

May Blossom will be opening late nights in the run up to Christmas and Lizzie is planning mulled wine and mince pie evenings for her customers, which she will promote on her Twitter and Facebook pages. May Blossom is open Tuesday till Thursday 10am till 5pm, late night on a Friday till 7pm and Saturday 10.30am till 4pm”.
