Sales exceed expectations at Shropshire caravan dealership
Sales of touring caravans, motorhomes, caravan holiday homes and luxury lodges have exceeded expectations in the challenging economic climate so far this year, a leading Shropshire and Mid Wales dealership has reported.
Tony Bywater, chairman of Salop Leisure, based at Emstrey, Shrewsbury, said sales of touring caravans, in particular, had been “exceptional” whilst overall sales were comparable with 2011, which was an excellent achievement.
He revealed that the company had been rewarded for taking caravans and motorhomes to a large number of shows and events across Shropshire and Mid Wales this summer. In addition, successful small exhibitions had been arranged at caravan holiday home parks along the Cambrian Coast.
“Sales have held up beyond our expectations in the difficult economic climate,” said Mr Bywater. “That’s possibly because we have introduced our quality products to many new potential customers this year and encouraged existing owners to update their caravans and motorhomes.
“It has been encouraging to discover that our market research and observations towards the end of last year and at the beginning of this year have been very accurate. They suggested that more British people were looking for holidays closer to home that gave value for money and were opting not to go abroad.
“We have seen more first time buyers, including many young families, looking to invest in holidays in the UK for the next 10 to 15 years by buying a touring caravan, motorhome or a caravan holiday home, which gives them the freedom to have a break any time they wish.
“We are also finding that retired couples are investing in caravan holiday homes and luxury lodges, which can be shared with their children and grandchildren.”
