South Shropshire designed eco-car to be star attraction of exhibition

Sustainable car company Riversimple, in Ludlow, has developed the two-seater vehicle powered by a hydrogen fuel cell which has a maximum speed of 50 mph and weighs only 350kg.

The only emissions from the car, which will be on display at Green Expo 2011 on November 10, are a few drops of water from the exhaust. Riversimple recently announced a road trial of the vehicle, with 30 of the cars being tested on the roads of Shropshire and Herefordshire in 2012/2013.

The prototype was greeted with huge interest by thousands of visitors to a recent London Science Museum exhibition. And the Riversimple local car will be on show at the Expo event in Worcester, where both businesses and the general public are being invited to discover how they can improve their green credentials.

The free event at the Sixways Stadium has been organised by The Marches Environmental Technologies Network which which promotes businesses within, or looking to diversify into, the sector in Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

Patricia Head, metnet project manager said: “ It is fantastic for us to have a leading environmental technology company showcase its acclaimed protoype car at the exhibition for visitors to see.

“The Green Expo will focus on energy and resource efficiency, waste reduction and how renewables could be a solution for businesses or home-owners looking to cut their energy bills.

“This event is open to everyone and free to attend. During the Expo, we will be briefing visitors on the technologies now available to help them lower their energy costs, manage waste and generally improve their green credentials.”

More than 50 companies from Shropshire and its border counties are exhibiting at the afternoon event which follows the metnet conference taking place earlier in the day.

For further information on the Green Expo which takes place from 12.30pm and 7pm, visit www.met-net.co.uk and click on the Green Expo logo.
