Shrewsbury Mothercare staff celebrate 70 years of combined service
Staff at a Shrewsbury store are celebrating after chalking up 70 years of service. The eight members of staff at the Mothercare branch in the town’s busy Darwin Centre have an impressive history of dedication to the cause of young families.

Longest-serving is Elaine Dorricott who has spent 24 years looking after mums and their offspring in Shrewsbury but many of the rest aren’t far behind with manager Samantha Roberts up to 13 years.
Mothercare itself has been in Shrewsbury for more than 30 years and has been in the Darwin Centre for 20.
Samantha Roberts said: “It’s a lovely place to work and we’re a really good team here with everyone helping each other and the customers.
“The training at Mothercare is very thorough and we are qualified in fitting everything from bras to baby seats so we cover just about every aspect of motherhood and looking after children.
“We even practice on the new pushchairs to make sure we know exactly how they fold out because it’s easy to get into a tangle when you have little children.
“Many of us have children of our own so we know at first hand what it’s like and that helps us empathise with our customers.”
Elaine, from Sundorne, in Shrewsbury, who has just become a grandmother for the first time, added: “It’s a very rewarding job and it gives me a lot of pleasure because you are working with mums-to-be and they’re very excited.
“As their children grow up they come into the store and I’ve even served them, the second generation, as they prepare to become parents and that’s really nice.
“We do build a good rapport with our customers and we do enjoy it. We’re all one big happy family here.”
