Susan is a 'notable' addition to Shropshire law firm

The Ludlow office of a leading county law firm has welcomed a new lawyer with a more unusual past than most in her profession.

Susan is a 'notable' addition to Shropshire law firm

The latest addition to PCB Solicitors, Susan Grazier, spent 17 years as a nurse and then midwife before embarking on a legal career which has seen her working for firms in Shropshire, Worcestershire and Herefordshire.

Susan earned her law degree “for fun” while working full-time as a midwife and later decided to use that qualification to shift professions and train as a solicitor, in response to the changing face of the NHS.

As well as being a solicitor, Susan is a notary public, enabling her to assist with the authentication and verification of documents to be used overseas. Notaries are members of the oldest branch of the legal professions and have their origins in Roman times, when they recorded judicial proceedings, drew up deeds and assisted in the administration of justice. They are appointed by the Archbishop of Canterbury and regulated by the Archbishop's Court of Faculties.

In addition to her notary public duties, Susan brings expertise in property law and conveyancing, commercial law and wills and probate matters. She has joined the Ludlow office of PCB, which also has bases in Shrewsbury, Telford, Church Stretton, Broseley, Knighton and Worcester.

Susan, whose interests outside of work including silversmithing, has now been a solicitor for eight years and a notary public for seven. She said: “I'm really pleased to be joining PCB. It's a very friendly firm with tremendous strength and depth in the talents of its staff and I'm very happy to be adding my own specialities to that mix.

“I think my time in the NHS served me well; I know how to work hard and I have high standards, but most of all, I like people. My time as a nurse and midwife has shaped the solicitor I am. But I am still hopeless at first aid!”

Managing partner at PCB, Rachael Hughes, said: “Susan is a great addition to PCB. There is much to be said for members of the team who have diverse backgrounds and experience and Susan's position as a notary public adds further depth to the offering from our Ludlow office. We're delighted to welcome her and her skills will be available to our clients across South Shropshire.”
