Fast-growing Shrewsbury furniture store opens new Pride Hill premises
A fast-growing Shrewsbury furniture company has opened a brand new store in the town’s bustling Pride Hill Shopping Centre.
The latest venture by Turner Furniture, who are based at the town’s Arrowpoint Way Retail Park, will create four new jobs.
The company, who specialise in high quality discount furniture, are bucking national trends and expanding and are even considering other larger premises.
Managing director Alan Turner said: “This new store will create four new jobs and is in addition to the five stores we already have.
“Things are going very well for the company and our staff and delivery drivers have been extremely busy.
“We got that busy we had to come off some Internet sites.”
Alan Turner said the family business, which was founded in 1976, has gone from strength to strength.
The decision to move in to Pride Hill Shopping Centre in Shrewsbury was to capitalise on people visiting a busy area of the town.
“There’s a lot of passing trade. It’s a very busy area,” he said: “We’ve only just moved in but we’re very pleased with how it’s going.
“We’ve taken on an extra 20 members of staff over the past three months. We’ve taken four staff on at Pride Hill and we’ve got plans for a big development within Shrewsbury which would bring in another store and would create another 20 staff.”
Russell Hall, Operations Manager for the Darwin, Pride Hill and Riverside Shopping Centres, said: “We’re delighted to have Turner Furniture here. It’s always good to welcome a new firm and especially when they are a local business.
“They have a fantastic record of expansion and are a real family firm employing local people and offering a good product.
“What is also important is that it adds to the mix of retail we have here in Shrewsbury and complements the existing range of stores in the three centres.”
Alan Turner said that if the company’s plans go ahead and on schedule, the new larger store would be up and running early in the new year.
He added: “We’re excited. It’s wonderful to create these extra jobs.”
Turners Furniture is a clearance outlet for famous name and high street brands. All furniture is either end of line or surplus stock, which means the customer often gets up to 70% off the recommended retail price.
Alan Turner said 99 per cent of the company’s stock is available immediately, which he believes is one of the reasons why the store proves so popular.
