Shropshire business trials revolutionary payment service
Oliver Gibbs Carpentry & Joinery is one of the first businesses to accept payments using a revolutionary mobile phone service.

From today, the Shropshire business will allow customers to pay for its carpentry and joinery using a mobile phone application called ‘Pingit’.
The smart phone application was launched by Barclays Bank last week and heralded as a 'revolution' in payment. The service uniquely links a person's current account with their mobile phone number. Oliver Gibbs, owner of Oliver Gibbs Carpentry & Joinery, explains why he has signed-up to trial it:
'We have noticed that customers are increasingly choosing electronic forms of payment like PayPal. Pingit is more convenient than other e-solutions. It also reduces the environmental impact of business by decreasing the need for bank journeys to pay in money’.
Currently, only Barclays customers can make payments of up to £300 per day using Pingit. However, anyone over the age of 18 with a UK mobile number can register to receive payments of up to £5000 daily. Other bank customers will also be able to utilise the payment facility from early March.
'Cash is king for many traders and small businesses', Oliver Gibbs says, 'but the simplicity of Pingit makes it an attractive alternative for mobile phone users'.
The Pingit application can be downloaded from the Barclays website and used on Android, Blackberry and iPhones for free.
