Shropshire Chamber of Commerce review results to be released

An audit of the Shropshire Chamber of Commerce which has been taking place over the last few months, is expected to be completed by the end of next month with the results published to Members and the wider media.

Started back in December 2011, the independent review has been carried out by Shropshire-based Whittingham Riddell, and the audit team has been looking in-depth at procedures and practices within the Chamber, as well as collecting sample documentary evidence.

“Some concerns were raised at the end of last year after some personnel changes on the Board” explained Richard Sheehan, Managing Director of the Shropshire Chamber of Commerce. “We took our Members’ views seriously, and felt that the most appropriate course of action was to engage a neutral third party to look over all of our systems, as well as past actions and decisions, and to give us an in-depth appraisal of any areas of improvement. We also chose to ask the British Chambers of Commerce, of which we are a Member, to oversee and – where needed – support the whole process.”

A final document is being prepared and the Chamber has committed to making the full Members’ Report available to Members immediately on its publication, which is expected late March.

“We’re very much looking forward to reviewing the report” added Richard “and the entire Board of the Shropshire Chamber of Commerce has committed to following any recommendations. We’re determined to make sure that we work to best practice and if we’ve made any mistakes in the past we’re keen to ensure that they won’t be repeated.”

“Ultimately this is a hugely exciting year for the whole Chamber, as we enter our 50th year of providing tangible support for local businesses, and we’re all working hard to continue in our efforts to provide a true voice for Shropshire business” he concluded.
