Businesses in Shropshire can now access a series of internet courses, from Wordpress to Search Engine Optimisation, from one of the county’s most established internet marketing agencies.

Hands-on internet courses available to Shropshire businesses

Ascendancy Internet Marketing in Shifnal are running a series of hands-on workshops at their offices, which offer practical advice to locals wanting to build their own website or make the most of an existing one. Their new course, which saw its first outing in March, is a ‘Wordpress in a Day’ course, designed to teach the fundamentals of building and making the most of a website using the popular platform.

Helen Culshaw, Managing Director of Ascendancy, says: “Some of the world’s biggest brands and best known celebrities have a site built on Wordpress – from Nokia to Katy Perry! There are now millions of Wordpress websites and, according to Wikipedia, it’s become the most popular content management system in use on the internet. It’s great for small businesses too as it’s straightforward to use and allows a lot of flexibility in design and useful features that incorporate social media, for example.”

Delegates on the first course spent a day with their laptops working through a series of practical steps to build their own website by the end of the day. The premise of the course is to get to know how Wordpress works and how to get the most from it.

Kay Heald of Kay Heald HR, says of the course: “I can thoroughly recommend Helen's Wordpress in a Day Workshop - it was a practical, hands-on session that has given me the confidence to not only go and make changes to my website, but now look at new and creative ways to develop the site further. The training and the reference materials were first class and I look forward to attending more training with Ascendancy Internet Marketing in the future.”

Other courses available include SEO for Beginners, which covers the basics of search engine optimisation and teaches delegates to research keywords and optimise their site copy on the day. Additionally, the ‘Getting Started with Google AdWords’ course allows attendees to research, plan and set up their own AdWords campaign, giving them the ability to manage it themselves and drive additional traffic to their site via pay per click.

The next course on the agenda is ‘Wordpress in a Day, which will be delivered by Ascendancy’s in-house Wordpress expert, Alex Culshaw on Tuesday 22nd May. The cost for this and other courses is £175 + VAT which includes lunch and refreshments throughout the day and on-going support from the Alex to get your site going.
