Bennett’s Legal launch new employment law drop-in clinic
Shropshire bosses have never been more at risk of being sued by their workers, a county expert has warned today as she urged employers to consider a regular “audit” of their responsibilities and the potential pitfalls of getting it wrong.

Charlotte Bateman, solicitor with Bennett’s Legal in Shrewsbury, has seen employment law evolve at a rapid rate in recent years leaving employers facing a “minefield of litigation”.
“From the BBC being brought to rights over ageism to companies ending up in the European Courts over holiday entitlement never before have employers faced such a minefield of litigation,” she said.
“The situation continues to change with a new raft of regulations coming into force just this month leaving employers at an even greater risk of possible legal action.”
Miss Bateman said these recent changes had prompted the firm to launch a new drop-in clinic on Fridays which was open to employers to take advantage of expert advice for any situation involving employment law. It is also hoped it could help bosses avoid any disputes arising merely from a lack of information.
“It is a good idea for employers to carry out a regular update or audit in terms of employment law to find out what issues may impact on their company and how they do business,” added Miss Bateman.
“We launched the drop-in clinic to provide that extra source of expert help and advice and we hope it will prove useful for employers who want to continue to keep up-to-date to ensure they are getting it right in terms of their day to day dealings with staff. It may help them to identify a possible problem and come up with a solution long before it causes any real difficulties.
“For big or small businesses we hope the drop-in clinic with be a productive and easily accessible support network where people can get the advice they need. We want to listen because we have heard far too often about companies drowning in legal jargon. Now more than ever that is the case but with clarity and reason we can help.”
The drop-in clinics run on a Friday from 9.30am to 3.30pm and contact Charlotte Bateman on 01743 443043 for further information.
