Handyperson Service launches with locks initiative in Market Drayton
Homes around Market Drayton are receiving a free security boost thanks to a partnership between Shropshire Council and Meres & Mosses Housing Association.

Visitors to a community safety day in the town were offered a variety of security devices, including locks and alarms, as part of a wider initiative to encourage vulnerable adults and the elderly to take a closer look at their security.
The offer also marked the launch of a new Handyperson Service by Meres & Mosses Housing Association and anyone attending the event, held at Festival Drayton, was given the opportunity to have new locks provided by the council and fitted for free by the MMHA handyperson.
The new service fulfils one of the promises made by Meres & Mosses Housing Association when it took over the housing stock from the former North Shropshire District Council, in 2007, and is being provided by Total Response Limited, which is part of Shropshire Housing Group, along with MMHA and South Shropshire Housing Association.
Ann Sutcliffe, executive director for neighbourhoods at Shropshire Housing Group, said: “The community safety day organised by Shropshire Council was the ideal opportunity for us to introduce our Handyperson Service while also being able to play our part in enhancing home security for members of the community. Providing new and additional locks to people is far more effective if they know they are going to be installed properly, which is precisely the kind of task the Handyperson Service exists for.
“Piece by piece and in order of priority we have been delivering on the promises we made to our tenants when they opted for Meres & Mosses Housing Association to take over the management of their homes. That started on day one of MMHA taking over, nearly five years ago, with the installation of high security doors, so it seems appropriate that security is the theme of this latest milestone.”
The Handyperson Service will be available to all Meres & Mosses Housing Association tenants, but will also be accessible to private homeowners. Anyone interested in more information, or wishing or to book the Handyperson, can call 0300 303 1190.
Residents attending the safety day were also able to receive information and advice from a range of other agencies, including the police, fire service, Marches Energy Association, SmartWater and the council's anti loan sharks advisory team.
