Grinshill stone to be centre-piece of north Shropshire hotel
A huge stone from Grinshill, measuring seven feet high and weighing over three tonnes is to form the new centre-piece at the front of the Old Rectory Hotel in Wem.

Currently situated in the centre of the car par it will be transformed with careful sculpting and by adding spiralling stainless steel tubing to form an artistic water feature, to welcome guests to the hotel.
Hotelier, Karl Hanmer commented: “The stone itself is the same sort as the splendid pillars of the hotel entrance so it should fit in well, and hopefully produce a unique and interesting feature which we believe will be appreciated by visitors.
“In years gone by there was a fully working fountain on the site and some time ago two elderly ladies visited us as they had been here as child evacuees from Liverpool during the war, and they remembered sitting on the steps for hours watching the original fountain.”
The Grade Two listed building, situated in Lowe Hill Road, in Wem, is over 200 years old, set in over four acres of secluded grounds and hosts weddings, functions, business travellers and tourists.
