Shrewsbury man swaps Afghanistan to launch a business in the county
A Shropshire man who spent months in Afghanistan training the country’s Army has returned to the county and launched his own business.

Jon Nicholls, of Shrewsbury, served as an Infantry Officer in the 3rd Battalion The Mercian Regiment and is now The Shropshire Woodman.
The Shropshire Woodman is a small aboricultural and cabinet-making company specialising in domestic clients, working on tree surgery projects across the county.
Jon, who was brought up in Shrewsbury and educated at Shrewsbury School, left the Army in October 2011 in order to have a change of lifestyle and start a family.
He re-trained as a cabinet-maker with a Devon-based craftsman and as a tree surgeon with Kingswood Tree Service in Kent before launching The Shropshire Woodman.
The family plan has also taken steps this year with the arrival of a baby daughter in January.
Jon said: “Tree work is a passion and each job is approached with enthusiasm and a focus to carry out all work to an exemplary standard. I am committed to bringing up a family in Shropshire and running a business that will benefit the people that live here.
“All employees of the company are fully qualified and insured and we pride ourselves on reliability, punctuality and a friendly approach.”
