Award-winning photographer back on the road
An award-winning photographer who was critically injured in Afghanistan has turned to a Shropshire motor dealer to get him back on the road.

Giles Duley is renowned for his work on humanitarian projects and while working in the war zone he was blown up by an IED, and lost both his legs and an arm.
Now after 15 months and 30 operations, he has learned to walk and even drive again, and has just taken delivery of a Ford Focus, from Furrows in Telford.
“All I have ever wanted since the explosion happened is to get my life back, and for me, part of that is going back to work.
“So to be able to get myself into a car and get somewhere is life-changing – I just wanted my independence and this has given me that chance.”
The Ford Focus has been adapted to suit Giles’ needs and he has received specialist training on how to use the new controls.
“It’s got a steering adapter and all the controls are operated with one hand, and the accelerator has been moved to the opposite side so I can drive using one of my prosthetic legs.
“It took a while to get used to the sensitivity, but I got there in the end – it’s literally like learning to drive all over again.”
Furrows of Telford’s sales manager, Antony Frost, said: “We have worked very closely with Giles to ensure that the vehicle has been adapted for his very specific needs, and it’s a great feeling to be able to help him get back on the road.
“He’s been through some extremely challenging times, and playing a small part in giving him back his independence has been a real honour for us all.”
Furrows is renowned for its service to Motability customers and has helped many make the most of their allowances for many years.
“We have a lot of loyal Motability customers who have been with us for years and who always choose to turn to Furrows when they need a new vehicle, so we hope Giles will also become a regular face at the dealership.”
