A young Oswestry mum has qualified as a Solicitor after six years of juggling home life and a young son with part time studies and a career as a Police Station Representative.

Oswestry mum qualifies as Solicitor after six years part-time studying

Sallie Stokes, who was brought up on Sweeney Mountain and attended Marches School, joined leading Shropshire and North Wales law firm, GHP Legal, in 2003. Within a year she had gained accreditation as a Police Station Representative and become a valuable member of the Firm’s Crime team.

Two years later Sallie made the decision to study part time at Nottingham Trent University and become a fully-fledged Criminal Lawyer. After seeing her commitment to the profession Robert Williams, GHP Legal Partner and Head of Training, offered her a training contract to run concurrently with her final two years study at Chester College of Law, where she gained her LPC.

Married, with one son, Sallie has had very little leisure time during the last six years. “Working all hours of the day and night has been the norm for me,” she says. “As a Police Station Representative I could be called out at any time. I studied for my accreditation at Cardiff University whilst working on the job, so doing the same whilst studying to become a Solicitor didn’t come as too much of a shock. It has been a long commitment though and now I am enjoying being able to relax more, take my son swimming and socialise with friends and family.”
