Shropshire firm at the cutting edge of health and safety training
Experience in one of the world's most dangerous working environments is being put to use by a Shropshire firm at the cutting edge of health and safety training.

ETD Training has appointed Bruce Gutteridge as head of business development, fresh from his return from working in the notoriously hazardous gas plants of Queensland, Australia.
The Clun-based organisation is a pioneer of electronic health and safety training, offering online, interactive courses that can be completed in stages by workers, with the results monitored by their managers to ensure progress and regulatory compliance.
Mr Gutteridge has joined ETD Training as it prepares to launch new independently-accredited courses to both private-sector businesses and public sector organisations, offering the UK's most comprehensive range of online health and safety training topics.
He said: “ETD revolutionised health and safety training and was one of the first organisations in the UK to launch e-learning courses which also recorded trainee progress, while fulfilling the necessary legal requirements.
“Now we are taking the business to the next stage, with new fully interactive programs which engage those receiving training, making health and safety learning fun and a positive experience.
“This training is a legal requirement for companies, but it needn't be tedious and dull. We're passionate about what we do, and that comes across in our courses which are as far away from 'death by PowerPoint' as you can get. I've seen at first hand the importance of effective health and safety training, whether that's being aware of potential dangers on a gas plant, learning to lift heavy loads without risking injury or avoiding damage to your posture from sitting at a screen.”
Business benefits of health and safety training compliance include reductions in work-related injuries, absenteeism and a lowering of insurance premiums.
“Being able to demonstrate that staff have completed this training also helps to mitigate potential compensation claims, but what most employers like is that training can be done at any time, online, removing the need for staff to listen to long-winded speeches from a trainer in a classroom environment.”
Instant training courses available from ETD include fire and safety, manual handling, display screen equipment (DSE) and safer people handling. The company also provides a range of DVD e-learning courses and bespoke training programmes for large companies and organisations.
