Shropshire legal firm warns of driving licence law
A Shropshire-based law firm is warning drivers across the county to ensure that their photo card licences are fully up-to-date or risk facing a hefty penalty.

With figures released by the DVLA suggesting that more than 1.8 million individuals in the UK are driving illegally, PCB Solicitors is urging local people to check that their licences are valid to prevent receiving a fine of up to £1,000.
Photo card licences replaced the traditional paper licences in 1998 and, under law, need renewing every ten years to ensure that the police and other enforcement agencies have the most up-to-date photographs of drivers to help deter cases of fraud and corruption.
Brendan Reedy, Partner at PCB Solicitors, said: “A photo card driving licence is only valid for a considerably short time, however the vast majority of people across Shropshire and the UK as a whole are simply not aware of this.
“The DVLA does as a matter of course issue reminders and renewal notices prior to a card’s expiration, but often these are lost, ignored or overlooked. A quick verification now and the potential payment of £20 for a new licence could save you having to pay a significant amount of money should you be caught. We’d ask anyone with a photo card licence to review theirs today and help put their minds at rest.”
