The SP Holding Group has marked its rapid growth and development over the last two years by appointing its first financial director.

SP Holding Group appoints its first financial director

The company, based in Telford, Shropshire, has appointed Mark Darrall from leading accountants RSM Tenon as it continues an expansion drive that has seen turnover reach £11 million.

Tracey Holding, the SP Holding Group’s Company Secretary, said: “We are delighted that Mark has joined our team. He is an exceptional accountant and business manager and I am sure he will make a very big contribution to the success of our plans for future expansion.

“Previously, Mark headed up our external management accounts team at RSM Tenon and has been providing us with close support for 18 months.

“As such, he knows our business inside out so we were delighted when he agreed to take the next step and become our first financial director.”

The SP Holding Group now operates a wide range of interlinked services, including drainage, truck and trailer repairs, vehicle and plant hire, metals fabrication and logistics, managed through four separate companies.

Mark Darrall, a qualified accountant, said he is excited by the opportunity to be working full-time for such a dynamic business.

He added: “The SP Holding Group is, most definitely, one of the fastest growing businesses in Shropshire so this was an opportunity I did not want to miss.

“Steve Holding, the Managing Director, has great energy and a very strong strategic eye for business development, so I am very pleased to be part of the team that will guide the company’s growth over the coming years.

“We want to push with development opportunities and will want to make sure that our growth is always profitable.”
He said operations in Telford will always act as the head office for the SP Holding Group but he saw that one of the next steps for the company would be to expand into other areas of the UK.

This is typified by the recent development in Willenhall of a trailer maintenance hub, under the Trailercare brand, which the SP Holding Group acquired last November.

Tracey Holding added: “Appointing Mark is part of our strategy to build and strengthen our board so we have the capability and capacity to continue with the next stage in our expansion.

“It will also give our customers and our very loyal, dedicated and talented staff, who have also contributed greatly to our success, the confidence in knowing we are planning carefully for our future success.”
