One of Shropshire’s leading travel agents is making plans to celebrate its 20th anniversary in business this year and the 10th anniversary of its current offices by hosting a in-store reception for customers old and new on Saturday 18th August.

Peakes Travel Elite, based in Mardol, Shrewsbury, is the town’s only independently owned and family run travel agent and has gone from strength to strength, despite difficult trading times for holiday companies nationally.

Having been originally set up from home by owner Frances Peake, who still works in the agency, the business moved to The Darwin Centre in Shrewsbury, but soon outgrew the premises and moved ten years ago to Mardol after taking over the former Ron Morgan Travel, and retaining its staff, to become Peakes Travel Elite.

Manager, Claire Moore commented: “Being totally independent and having great experience in both long haul and mainstream holidays, we have been able to create bespoke solutions to a wide variety of travel and holiday requests and we are renowned for our customer service, which we believe has stood us in such good stead over the years.

“An example of this customer satisfaction is the fact that we have a 70% turnover of repeat clients, which we believe is testimony to the personal and dedicated service that we provide.

“Long standing staff members are vastly experienced in all aspect of business and holiday travel and we have won several awards for not only our bespoke holidays, but also for our long haul itineraries right through to coach travel, and we have just appointed Rebecca Smith who is an expert on cruising, to help expand that side of the business”

One of the first customers when the Mardol agency opened, were local couple Mark and Dean Harris of The Business Company, based in Shrewsbury, who have been using the agency ever since. Mark said: “We have always been impressed with the courtesy, professionalism and knowledge provided by Claire and her team, so we simply come up with a holiday destination idea and they, knowing what we like, then come up with an itinerary and add a sense of style”

Frances Peake added: “People are becoming a lot more discerning regarding their holidays so it is important that we adapt and that the travel suggestions we recommend are suitably tailored to their needs and provide good value for money, and we are now looking forward to our next 20 years in business.”
