Every year in August, during National Road Victim Month, the country remembers those who have been killed or injured on our roads.

Lawyer slams disrespectful insurers during National Road Victim Month

A Personal Injury Lawyer who has worked across the county for many years believes the time should also be used to raise awareness of the lack of respect shown by insurers and those they sell claims to for the victims of road accidents.

Robert Williams, a Partner with leading law firm GHP Legal which has offices in Oswestry, Langollen and Wrexham, said today: “Over the last two decades victims of road and other accidents have become a commodity to be traded, sold on by the insurance companies to faceless businesses who are keen to provide the victims with overpriced hire cars or to send them to claims companies that could be anywhere in the country.

“In some cases victims even find themselves being forced seek medical help by telephone and being railroaded into a quick settlement before they have fully recovered or received all the treatment and therapies they need. It is all wrong. Being involved in an accident in the first place is traumatic enough, without the prospect of dealing with a claim through a faceless company on the other side of the country.

“Victims need local support and help from professionals whom they can meet and talk face to face with and whose interests are to get the best results for the victim, not to sell other products. You would not get a representative from one of these companies visiting a client in their own home, but if a victim was too poorly to travel to the offices of a local law firm a home visit would be arranged as the norm.”
