Shropshire businesses urged to have survey say

Shropshire Chamber of Commerce is encouraging business owners across the county to make sure their voice is heard in the latest round of an influential UK-wide economic survey.

Entrepreneurs are being invited to contribute their views to the British Chambers of Commerce’s next Quarterly Economic Survey (QES), the largest and most representative independent business review of its kind in the country, and one that is a real barometer of industry opinion with key policymakers including the Government and the Bank of England.

Each quarter, more than 6,000 business owners from across every region of the country participate in the QES. Businesses are questioned about a wide range of key issues, including sales and orders, exporting, employment prospects, investment, recruitment, cash flow, general confidence, and price pressures. As the results of the QES are published in advance of any official statistics and other private surveys, it has become widely-renowned as the first true economic indicator each quarter, and seen an accurate measure of industry confidence.

Rosie Beswick, Policy Officer for Shropshire Chamber of Commerce, commented: “The QES is a hugely influential monitoring tool, and the more business owners that take part and make their views known, the greater strength we have as a Chamber – both here in Shropshire and collectively throughout the country – to successfully lobby ministers and other key decision makers for the benefit of the wider business community.

“The impact of our lobbying on behalf of local companies is heightened when we have sufficient facts and data to make our case to the powers that be as strongly as possible, it really can make all the difference. I would urge all business owners – not just Chamber Members – across Shropshire to take a few moments out to make sure their voice is heard.”

The latest Quarterly Economic Survey is open to contributions until 9th September. Open to all businesses with a base in Shropshire, not just Chamber of Commerce members, it can be accessed via the Surveymonkey website (www.surveymonkey.com/s/ShropshireChamberQES32012).

The next QES will run from 12th November, with businesses able to register to join the Chamber’s Quarterly Economic Survey mailing list to ensure their involvement by visiting the Lobbying and Representation section of its website.
