Newport dentist celebrates six month success
A Telford dentist is celebrating success just six months after opening the doors to his first surgery following a £250,000 revamp.

Dr Ashok Jakhu opened Wycherley’s Dental Practice in Newport six months ago and already has more than 150 private patients visiting the surgery.
Dr Jakhu, who grew up in Wolverhampton, said he had already helped to dispel the myth that private dentistry was expensive to many people and hoped to build on that.
But he said the popularity and success of the surgery on the town’s High Street within such a short space of time was partly down to the sedation facilities for those with dental phobias and being able to give the time and attention the patients needed.
“The option of sedation has become very popular in a very short space of time and we have people travelling from all over the county for this already.
“Dental phobia is a huge problem which often results in people not visiting a dentist for years resulting in terrible tooth decay but with sedation they become relaxed and have some awareness of what is happening.
“The patient is usually so relaxed they are on the verge of falling to sleep but can still communicate with me and more often than not they have a short period of amnesia and cannot remember the treatment they were anxious about. This allows them to receive the important care they require without all of the pain and anxiety,” he said.
The surgery, which offers plans from £12.50 a month, has a separate private room for the patient to recover with the partner or friend they have brought with them for support.
Dr Jakhu, who employs three dental nurses, a hygienist and a receptionist, said he had been left “overwhelmed” by the support of both people within the town and also fellow businesses.
“We spent £250,000 refurbishing the building but it was certainly worth the wait.
“People are amazed when they walk in as I purposely avoided making it clinical so each room is colour themed to get away from the white clinical image of a dentist’s surgery.
“Our opening times have also been an attraction as we do late evenings and weekends. Our flexibility means people can keep their holidays for holidays and not for dental appointments.
“I would like to thank everyone who has supported me during the refurbishment and since opening. It really has been overwhelming,” he said.
Dr Jakhu said he had also been extremely busy with patients wanting Invisalign clear braces which he has a special interest in. He will be holding an open evening on October 29th for people interested in the clear braces.
