A local not-for-profit organisation that aims to conquer people’s fear of public speaking is encouraging local business owners and professionals to come along to a free taster event this week.

The Shropshire group of the internationally-renowned Toastmasters organisation is calling for business owners and nervous speakers across the county to attend their Open Session this coming Wednesday, 19th September, from 7.30pm until 9.45pm, and learn more about the art of public speaking, listening and thinking.

The Telford group, which meets every third Wednesday of the month at the Gray’s Hotel just off junction5 of the M54, has 16 regular members from all walks of life. “Everyone is welcome” explained the group’s President Sam Warner. “We have experienced business people who are looking to develop the skills to speak more authoritatively in the workplace, or give more polished client presentations, right through to members who are hugely nervous at even the thought of standing up and speaking. Our group is really friendly and supportive and we know that every person’s journey is a very personal one so everyone takes their progression at their own pace.”

Members of the Toastmasters group are taught communication, leadership, and speaking skills, and attendees are encouraged to put their new skills into practice by taking on speaking roles at each session. “The meetings provide a warm and friendly non-judgemental environment for people wishing to become more adept at making speeches” Sam explained. “The Open Session is completely free and everyone’s welcome, although we would ask that you confirm if you can make it so that we can arrange the seating.”
