New business figures show that Telford means business
Figures released today show that the number of new business start-ups in Telford and Wrekin hit record levels this spring.
The data also shows that the number of business failures in the borough fell by 15% in the first six months of 2012, compared with the same time last year. Nationally over the same period business failures fell by just nine per cent.
The figures were compiled by website duport.co.uk based on returns to Companies House.
Council leader Kuldip Sahota said; “This borough is a great place to do business in and, as these figures show, people are grasping that opportunity.
“The Council is working very closely with the business community to help create the right conditions for growth, whether this is for small and new business start ups or for new companies looking to relocate here.
“We have so much to offer – for example there’s the new Telford Enterprise Hub in Hadley Park East offering workspace and training for new entrepreneurs, which the Council has helped fund.
“Our Small Business Loan Fund also launched this spring with £400,000 of funding available this year alone to help borough businesses, who can’t get support from normal high street lenders, to grow.
“Meanwhile we’ve also started our Telford Automotive Excellence to target attracting automotive suppliers to the borough highlighting the massive supply of development land we have, the excellent transport links and skilled workforce, which has had a very positive reception from businesses.
“Overall the future for business in the borough is looking positive and we will boost this further as we move to giving more support than ever and help to win more business for the borough.”
