Members of Shropshire’s oldest networking club will hand over £1,000 raised during an exclusive visit from two Battle of Britain veterans at their meeting next month.

Telford Business Club hands over cash to RAF charity

More than 75 business owners and guests turned out for the record-breaking Telford Business Club meeting and helped to raise £1,000 for the RAF Benevolent Fund.

The cheque will be handed over to Wing Commander Simon Footer MBE RAF (retired), the regional director of the RAF benevolent fund based at RAF Brize Norton, at the club’s meeting on November 13 at The Shropshire in Muxton.

The money was raised through ticket sales for the event to hear Squadron Leader Tony Pickering, 92, and Flying Officer Ken Wilkinson, 95, speak about their time in the battle and also through sales of signed books.

Terry Le Long, chairman of Telford Business Club said: “It was such a fantastic night with more than 75 people supporting the event – it would be equally fantastic to see those people return to see the cheque being handed over.

“We really are very appreciative of the support we got from the business community and wider supporters and we would like to build on that.

“We are the oldest networking club in Shropshire and pass on tens of thousands of pounds of business between members every year.

“We are a relaxed club and welcome people from all size businesses and all professions.

“We have very exciting plans for 2013 which we are all looking forward to.”

Mr Le Long will be speaking at next month’s meeting with a presentation on Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) which founders believe can help address problems such as phobias, depression, habit disorders and learning disorders and could be used “to help people have better, fuller and richer lives”.

NLP refers to the connection between the neurological processes, language and behavioural patterns that have been learned through experience which can then be organised to achieve specific goals in life.

The meeting on November 13 at The Shropshire in Muxton starts at 6pm and includes a two-course hot meal at a cost of £15 for visitors.
