A new Shropshire business has been launched in response to the growing trend in online retailing.

Shropshire business launches in response to boom in online retailing

Shrewsbury-based ‘Pick Pack Post’ is aiming to fill a gap in the market for retailers and individuals who are selling products through the internet.

Natasha Carr of the firm, which is based in Greyfriars Gifts at Longden Coleham, said that there was an increasing demand for a quick and reliable packaging and posting service.

“Online retail sales increased by 14% in the UK last year to more than £50bn, with predictions that the growth will continue. We are responding to this boom by offering to securely package products and post them out at about one third less than Royal Mail prices,” she explained.

“We expect that both local retailers and private individuals will benefit from Pick Pack Post as we take much of the hassle and the cost out of online sales.

“There is definitely a market for our service, which we believe is unique in the county and people who use sites such as eBay need to ensure that their items are packed and delivered correctly.

“The reaction from Shropshire customers so far is very positive and we are confident that our business will increase as does the trend in this type of retailing, especially as we approach the festive season and the number of people using their smartphones and tablets to shop rapidly rises,” Natasha added.

Internet shoppers spent an average of just under £1,500 each on 39 items last year, with internet retail trade accounting for 12% of total spending, the highest in Europe.
