A Shropshire woman who started her own career as an apprentice has repaid the favour and taken on a young woman, as part of business expansion.

Young apprentice joins the team at promofix

Kathryn Holloway runs successful company Promofix, based in Bridgnorth, and started her working life as a trainee for a county marketing company after leaving Idsall School at Shifnal.

Kathryn is now 27 and an award-winning entrepreneur, having set up her own company designing and selling promotional items for individuals and businesses five years ago.

Her firm, which has clients throughout the UK, moved to larger premises in Whitburn Street earlier this year and is now bucking the trend by expanding its team of staff.

This week she invited Oldbury Wells student Chevaun Thompson, aged 18, to join Promofix as an apprentice.

Chevaun commented: “As a local Bridgnorth girl I am delighted to be given this first opportunity with such a well known company and have been surprised at just what a fascinating business it is, I have been answering the phones and meeting clients and of course, making the tea!

“I am learning all sorts of workplace skills and utilising new social media such as Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin, which is becoming a large part of company marketing.”

Kathryn added: “I know from personal experience the benefits that being given a first chance can bring, so I am delighted to welcome Chevaun to the team and will be enlisting her in the NVQ scheme to enhance her career prospects even further.
