Shrewsbury company delivers drives for disposal

A Shropshire same day courier company has lent its ongoing services to one of the region’s leading IT recycling firms to ensure the safe disposal of computer hardware.

Shrewsbury company delivers drives for disposal

Over the past two years Dex’s Midnight Runners (DMR) has been called upon by Telford-based XPO IT Services to ensure the safe collection and delivery of hundreds of computer hardware and hard drive units due for recycling and destruction.

Derek Bennion, Director of DMR, commented: “Since we were asked over two years ago to help XPO IT Services with deliveries, we have undertaken many collections both locally and nationally for the team. Members of our firm regularly transport loads uniformed as XPO IT Services, which ensures they provide XPO IT Services’ client with a consistent and familiar service.

“It has worked really well using three regular drivers as they understand and have knowledge about the consignments they are collecting. Occasionally the loads will differ from expectation, so they are often required to use their own initiative to gage whether the contents should be accepted, or queried back to XPO IT Services. Due to the nature of the consignments our drivers are also required to obtain signatures for audit purposes, which demonstrates the importance and confidentiality of the loads they’re dealing with, and provides the clients with complete peace of mind.”

The partnership has seen DMR ensure the controlled collection and delivery of the units to XPO IT Services’ state of the art recycling plant for shredding and crushing, and also compliments XPO’s other services, including on-site Hard Drive Shredding. The process is essential as the units often contain confidential business files and databases which require the equipment to be destroyed and recycled. As the deliveries involve the controlled disposal of hardware units and equipment, DMR was required to obtain a Controlled Waste Carriers Licence from the Environment Agency, which is mandatory for firms that are not certified waste contractors, but help to dispose of waste products.

Ross Talbot, Business Development Executive at XPO IT Services said: “We approached the team at DMR over two years ago to undertake IT collections as DMR offered a reliable, cost effective solution to our requirements. There have been many occasions when we have called upon the DMR team to deal with important and often last minute deliveries, which they have always been happy to help us out with. Derek and his team always provide us, and our customers, with a high quality service that we are happy to call our own.”
