Wace Morgan Solicitors expand mediation service

A Shropshire legal firm has expanded its family mediation service, in line with the government’s increasing emphasis on this type of work.

Wace Morgan Solicitors expand mediation service

Wace Morgan Solicitors now has a team of three specialists who work with separating couples as an alternative to going through court proceedings and is able to offer the service in offices in Shrewsbury, Newtown, Oswestry, Welshpool and Church Stretton.

The government announced earlier this year that it is aiming to promote the place of mediation in modern separations and ensure that legal aid is available where appropriate.

Cathy Swan, who has been working as a mediation expert at Wace Morgan since 1996, is now joined by Esther Evans as a trained mediator and Steph Kitson as co-ordinator.

“I am delighted to welcome Esther into the mediation team and having a dedicated co-ordinator will make it easier to arrange appointments for clients as quickly and easily as possible. Also we will be able to offer the mediation service clients in mid Wales and other towns without our clients having to travel so far,” Cathy said.

“Mediation is an excellent way for separating couples to make their own arrangements about their children and finances. It is so much better for them to be able to discuss matters in a calm meeting, rather than putting themselves through the stress and expense of court proceedings.

“So often, once proceedings are started, it can be hard to try to reach a compromise. Neither party may wish to be seen to ‘give way’. However, if they can meet and try to resolve issues before their views become entrenched, there is a far better chance that they will be able to make their own arrangements,” she added.
