Shropshire teenager on road to successful career
A school leaver “determined” to find a job has been taken on full time by one of Shropshire’s leading companies after a successful ten month apprenticeship.

Melissa Culver (17) has been appointed as an administration assistant by TTC Automotive, part of the successful TTC Group, which educate both corporate and individual drivers to reduce road casualties nationwide.
The former Charlton School pupil made 26 applications to Shropshire firms for an apprenticeship – but was turned down by all of them.
“I didn’t want to go to college and I had my heart set on an apprenticeship. I was looking everywhere for everything,” said Melissa, of Wellington, who admitted she got “quite desperate” in her hunt to join the world of work.
Connexions, the Government’s careers advisor, referred her to County Training which helped to improve Melissa’s key skills over six weeks, through its Foundation Learning programme, before she made a successful application to TTC Automotive, of Hadley Park, Telford.
County Training, which is part of Shropshire Council, is one of the UK’s leading training provider’s and is currently supporting over 500 individuals through Apprenticeships in Shropshire. Heather Lang, Business Skills Manager at County Training says: “We are very proud of Melissa’s achievements and pleased she has secured a permanent position with TTC Automotive as a result. Her progress demonstrates how effectively Apprenticeships can work for businesses, whilst supporting bright and enthusiastic young people into fulfilling and sustained careers here in Shropshire.”
“Mel settled into our team immediately and was very quick to learn new tasks. She has contributed well to our business activities,” said TTC Automotive director Jo Baugh.
“She studied for her Level 2 Certificate in Business Administration diligently and worked hard to complete all the tasks and work within the business at the same time. She is a valued member of our team.”
Melissa is now attending night school twice a week to study GCSE English and maths and is aiming for a Level 3 Diploma in Business Administration – she has also just passed her driving test after being given special help from TTC Automotive’s driver trainers who specialise in corporate driver training.
TTC Automotive works with businesses of all sizes helping them with all aspects of work related training including training drivers in vehicles ranging from company cars and vans to large trucks, minibuses and larger buses. They are part of the award winning TTC Group, a nationwide driver training specialists putting on courses for police, councils and companies, with the aim of reducing road traffic casualties.
