A Christmas fundraising event is to be held in Telford this week in aid of a local charity.

Shropshire fundraising event launched to support local charity

The Christmas Fayre and Swish event will be held at the Holiday Inn on the 29th November from 4:30pm until 9:00pm to raise much-needed funds for Shropshire RCC, a local Charity organisation that works with individuals and groups to improve quality of life and strengthen communities across the county.

Tickets for the event - which is being supported by local businesses across the region including, BBLB Architects LLP, Shepherd, PCB Solicitors and the Cyril Orchard Group – will cost £8 for early-birds and £10 on the door. Proceeds will be shared between two Shropshire RCC projects ‘Wheels for Work’, a scheme to help young people get transport to their first job, and ‘SLOG’ (Sight Loss Opportunity Group) which helps people who have experienced sensory loss to take part in activities such as going to the theatre, or taking part in tandem cycling.

As well as a variety of stalls offering gifts including gourmet chocolates, handmade decorations, natural bath & body products, and accessories & handbags, the fayre will also include an optional ‘Swish’ for participants to bring in good-condition clothing, and exchange their pre-loved items for others of their fancy. For those interested in the ‘Swish’ there will be one or two pre-event clothes drop off points where clothes can be exchanged for tokens that can then be used on the night to ‘purchase’ swish items. Any clothing left over from the event will be donated to the Haven Refuge which supports women and children affected by domestic violence and homelessness.

Debbie Ward, Business Development Manager of BBLB Architects, said: “We are delighted to have been able to organise such a fantastic event, which is being generously supported by a number of local businesses as well as the Telford & Wrekin Community Choir who will be treating us to a sample of their repertoire mid way through the evening. The event will be a great run up to the festive season, and will allow people to tick Christmas presents off the list early whilst having fun at the same time!

“By hosting this event, we’re not only looking to raise valuable funds, but to raise awareness of the charity to those who may need the services it offers as well as to those who may wish to get involved in volunteering or fundraising, and I would urge people to come along and show support for such a worthwhile charity and causes. We are encouraging people to bring along their friends and family as well as colleagues to make it a fun social evening. Anyone interested in purchasing tickets to attend, is encouraged to get in touch, by calling my mobile on 07971 042659, or Julie Stedman of Shropshire RCC on 01743 360641.”
