They were the only company in Shropshire to scoop the award this year.

The Sword of Honour represents a pinnacle of achievement in the world of health and safety management and is awarded to companies who demonstrate only the highest standards in this area.

Kim Walshaw, area service manager, at Adelphi Care Services took to the stage to accept the award alongside company chiefs from national companies including Aston Martin, Unipart Group Ltd and Siemens who were also winners.

Joe Kwaterski, business development director at Adelphi said he was “extremely proud” of his team for their “commitment, dedication and hard work” in successively achieving ‘five stars’ in the BSC Occupational Health and Safety Audit which they had to win and retain before qualifying for the prestigious Sword of Honour.

“Adelphi Care Services has been named as the ‘best of the best’ alongside such nationally prestigious companies as Aston Martin which is fantastic news for the company and our staff but also for Shropshire as this award has put the county on the map.

“We strive to maintain the highest of standards for our clients and to ensure that adults with learning disabilities enjoy life to their full potential in a safe environment,” Mr Kwaterski said.

“This is not just a care industry award it is an award where we are alongside some of the largest companies in the UK and of those Adelphi Care Services which employs 135 members of staff stands proud.

“We are elated and will now be building on this achievement and working to ensure we retain our five star health and safety practices.”

The staff at Adelphi Care Services, which has its head office in Longbow Professional Centre and has four residential properties across the county, provide adults with Autism, Asperger’s and learning disabilities with safe and comfortable home lives through residential care, supported living and respite. They are also supportive of adults with behaviours which challenge the service.

Neal Stone, director of policy and communications at the British Safety Council said: “The trustees of the British Safety Council are proud to bestow the award of the Sword of Honour on Adelphi Care Services.

“We are proud to have the opportunity to commend Adelphi Care Services for their excellence in managing health and safety for their employees and their residents in their care.

“The British Safety Council also pays tribute to the support they provide young people in their care who having learning disabilities.

“Adelphi Care Services have demonstrated exemplary management of health and safety risks – the directors, senior managers and staff are to be congratulated on this important achievement.

“We wish Adelphi Care Services, their staff and residents continuing success in delivering high quality living and working conditions”.

Adelphi Care Services were scored by BSC chiefs before proving to a panel of independent experts that they were ‘best of the best’ in health and safety management in the country.
