A Shropshire recycling company is celebrating after securing a prestigious contract with one of the leading bed and mattress retailers in the country.

Shropshire firm gets into bed with Silent Night

Telford-based JBS Fibre Recovery, the largest independent mattress recycler in the UK, has successfully won a contract to recycle every old mattress on behalf of retail giant Silent Night’s customers nationwide.

The partnership will see the team at JBS Fibre Recovery collect over 7,000 mattresses during 2013 and recycle them at one of the firm’s dedicated processing centres located in Telford, Milton Keynes, Burton-on-Trent, Trowbridge and Bridgend. The company’s investment in highly sophisticated technologies, and a highly skilled workforce, means it has the capabilities to recycle every single component of a mattress, from the ppolyurethane foam to the polyester fibres and metal springs, by splitting each component apart and extracting and reprocessing them.

John Neill, Operations Director at JBS Fibre Recovery, commented: “We are absolutely delighted to have been appointed by such a huge multi-national as Silent Night to recycle all of the firm’s old mattresses on behalf of its direct home delivery customers. We worked closely with the team at Silent Night to establish their exact environmental requirements, and are committed to ensuring that this new partnership provides the firm with a complete landfill diversion strategy.”

The firm currently recycles over 800,000 mattresses nationwide, diverting over 7,000 tonnes from landfill, with the mattresses’ components recycled into fibres such as cotton or hemp for the textiles industry, and products as diverse as carpet underlay, vehicle matting, tin cans and paper clips.

Brent Stuart, National Business Development Manager at Silent Night, said: “We were hugely impressed by JBS Fibre Recovery’s expertise and how they provide completely sustainable environmental solutions. As a company, we have stringent environmental policies in place that we have to adhere to, and the team at JBS Fibre Recovery clearly demonstrated both their commitment and capability to guarantee the complete satisfaction of our requirements. We are very much looking forward to working in partnership together over the next twelve months.”
