Businesses and organisations involved in helping the Telford community will get the chance to join a project which has been hailed a success just 12 months on from its launch.

The Telford Pulling Together initiative sees businesses who currently work to help others in the community or want to start community work meet to share ideas.

Project organisers will be holding the next breakfast meeting on February 7 at The Telford Whitehouse in Wellington. Telford and Wrekin Council for Voluntary Services, as well as organisations including Shropshire and Telford Community Foundation are involved in the project.

Edward Marvin, of the Shrewsbury-based Community Foundation, said: “We were keen to get local businesses together who are doing work in the community. The main purpose of the project is kick start collaborative working and develop ideas and e-learning within the charity sector and also engagement amongst the Telford business community.

“A number of companies in the Telford area have become regular contributors to the work, including the Dodd Group, Asda, Fujitsu, Cap Gemini, the Whitehouse Hotel and Telford Shopping Centre but of course there is always room for more.”

The Corporate Social Responsibility forum breakfast networking event will be held at the hotel from 8am to 10am and will include a free breakfast. Businesses that are interested in this event need to register as places have to be booked in advance.

Sue Williams, who works for Telford and Wrekin CVS and is forum coordinator, said: “The Telford Pulling Together project is going really well at the moment.

The breakfast meetings give businesses the chance to share with others what they are doing in the community and what is happening within Telford communities, as well as pick up ideas from each other.

“The forums are by invitation-only and those going along are businesses volunteering in the community or thinking about doing so.”

Next month’s meeting will also include an informal talk from Lyn Brayne, service director of the Citizens Advice Bureau.

Any businesses interested in attending the breakfast meeting or wanting more information on the Telford Pulling Together project should call Lois Breen on (01952) 567813.
