Budding young entrepreneurs in and around Oswestry are being encouraged to attend a new business start-up club which is holding monthly meetings in the town between now and September 2013.

The ‘Start Up Oswestry’ club is open to people aged 18-30 who are thinking of setting up their own business.

Each meeting focuses on basic start-up information and aims to help young people put together a simple business plan, as well as offering support with sales and marketing, access to finance and help promoting their new enterprise.

Four meetings have been held since the club was launched in October 2012 – with the next one due to be held on Tuesday 12 February 2013 from 5.30pm until 7pm at The Guildhall in Oswestry.

Tickets are free but online registration is essential, via http://startupcluboswestry4.eventbrite.co.uk.

The Start Up Oswestry club is run by Shropshire Council, Oswestry Town Council and Shropshire Enterprise to offer young business-minded people free information and support.

Originally open to those 25 and under, the maximum age has now been raised to 30 by the Government, who have also invested an additional £30 million pounds in this national scheme.

Mike Owen, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for business growth and prosperity, said:

“These clinics provide a great opportunity for Oswestry’s budding young entrepreneurs to gain valuable advice about setting up their own business. I encourage anyone aged 30 and under with a great business idea to come along, to find out how to turn that idea into a money-making business.”

Vince Hunt, local Shropshire Councillor for Oswestry West, said:

“I’d like to encourage businesses to come along and meet other people planning the same self-employed future. At the event they will be talking about developing ideas, naming the business, branding, pitching, connecting to other new start-up businesses, making contacts with existing business owners and local network groups, and registering online with the start-up forum to receive daily business tips.”

Martin Bennett, a local Shropshire Councillor for Oswestry East, said:

“Starting up a new business can be a challenge, and I am pleased that this initiative will enable young people to find out how they can meet that challenge. I hope that learning how to do it will lead to opportunities for new business start-ups.”

The Start-up clinics are being held in Oswestry every second Tuesday of the month until September 2013. Future meetings are being held on the following dates, with each being held at The Guildhall in Oswestry.
