Snow is no deterrent for Telford business leaders
More than 60 business leaders from across Telford braved arctic conditions to hear the real truth about the UK economy.

The intrepid delegates battled through the snow to Telford Business Partnership’s quarterly breakfast meeting to hear from Graeme Chaplin – a key representative from the Bank of England.
Chairman Robin Melley said: “Despite the awful weather, we had an excellent turnout for the meeting, including a whole new influx of guests who were experiencing one of our events for the very first time.
“It’s the third year that Graeme has shared his thoughts with our members and it’s clear that the economy has been slow and sluggish, with inflation persistently sticky, but there is hope it could be back on target in two to three years’ time.
“Graeme also outlined the risks to the UK economy, and the key concern is the overseas environment, with the Euro Zone a particular worry.”
Graeme is the Bank of England’s representative for the West Midlands and Oxfordshire, and he discussed the UK’s economic prospects at the event held at the University of Wolverhampton’s Telford campus, in Priorslee.
“His presentation was a topical reminder of just what shape our economy is in, and it was an excellent opportunity for local businesses to raise questions which directly affect them and the local economy,” said Robin.
Members and guests also heard that Telford Business Partnership has chosen the Midlands Air Ambulance as its nominated charity for the coming year.
“We also introduced members to our calendar of masterclass events which will be taking place over the coming months – these will be hosted by some of our members who will share their skills and experience to help other companies benefit from their knowledge,” said Robin.
The breakfast meeting was one of a series of networking events organised throughout the year by TBP, with the aim of encouraging business and professional services firms to share opportunities and join forces for ongoing business success.
