Shropshire courier clocks up the miles for UK’s leading pie and snack manufacturer
A Shropshire same-day courier company has clocked up around 10,000 miles to make sure the UK’s leading pie and snack manufacturer’s products reach their hungry customers so they can experience the “love at first bite” that it proudly promotes.
Over the past three years, Shrewsbury-based Dex’s Midnight Runners (DMR) has been called upon by Palethorpes (Pork Farms), to ensure the safe and speedy delivery of both its ambient and chilled goods to suppliers on both a regional and national basis.
DMR has been entrusted with nearly 1,000 jobs over the course of the partnership, at one stage undertaking 12 delivery runs a week using its specialist refrigerated courier vans, which are fitted with a log that registers the temperature every 15 minutes to ensure the cargo can be constantly monitored.
Founded in 1859, Palethorpes originally became famous for its quality sausages, with the Market Drayton-based firm now specialising in manufacturing savoury snacks and pork pies for a number of leading retailers and supermarkets.
Derek Bennion, Director of DMR, explained: “Since April 2010, we have become Palethorpes Pork Farm’s safety net for any ad hoc chilled or ambient deliveries. This allows us to be called upon to ensure vital ingredients from suppliers reach their production facilities in time, which often sees us spring into action at very short notice. Given Palethorpes dedication to quality, it’s not surprising that we have to practice and record 100% quality in all respects.”
Carol Crozier, Planning and MRP Manager of Palethorpes (Pork Farms), said: “We work with DMR because of their ability to turn deliveries round in a swift and professional manner, and also because of their very competitive rates and reliability. We do, on occasion, need a special or emergency delivery due to stock adjustments and order uplifts, and that’s when we call upon DMR to assist us, whether it be a local delivery or one the other side of the country.
