A young woman from Telford has accelerated up the career ladder following success through a pre-Apprenticeship programme at County Training.

Deena Berry, 19, started her foundation learning at County Training after needing some help to progress into employment. Through a pre-Apprenticeship programme she was able to develop and enhance her employability skills.

The programme is designed to help candidates achieve a better understanding of the interview process and increase their chances of obtaining either an Apprenticeship or permanent employment.

Deena then went on to gain a work experience placement at Southwater Event Group, one of the largest venue organisations in the country. Located in Telford, it comprises of The International Centre, Holiday Inn, Grays Hotel, The International Hotel and StagecraftUK – an event production company.

Deena has excelled in her role and she has now been made a permanent employee at The International Hotel.

Sam Cuzick, Front Office Manager at the Holiday Inn Telford and International Hotel comments, “Deena is doing really well at The International Hotel, she is a breath of fresh air and taking her on as a permanent member of staff has definitely proven to be the right decision.”

“Deena has worked extremely hard for us and has settled in fantastically. She has shown a real eagerness to learn and given 100% effort in everything she does.”

Councillor Cecilia Motley, Portfolio Holder for Learning & Skills at Shropshire Council comments, “Deena has done exceptionally well and through her hard work and determination has succeeded in progressing so quickly in her chosen field. She has demonstrated how training and gaining qualifications with the right support really does help people to progress in their careers.”

Within her second month of employment Deena has achieved the ‘Employee of the Month’ title for her excellent work and the dedication she has shown within her job role.

County Training is the largest provider of training in Shropshire and attracts and supports a high calibre of individuals like Deena through pre-Apprenticeship and Apprenticeship Programmes all year round.

If you are able to share your expertise and experience and would be willing to offer the opportunity of work experience placements or an apprenticeship at your business, or if you are 16+ and interested in gaining skills and qualifications contact County Training for info on how you can get involved.
