The Wrekin Housing Trust is increasing the number of renewable energy systems at its properties after securing two sources of funding from the Energy Savings Trust.

The first amount of £113,250 secured a couple of months ago from the DECC Renewable Heat Premium Payment (second phase), is currently being used to install 50 solar thermal systems and 5 air source heat pumps after the Trust matched the funds.

The Trust has also learnt in the last couple of weeks that it has been awarded another £152,000 in the third phase of funding, which will be used to install a further 50 air source units before the middle of the year.

Fleur Whittingham, Gas Operations Manager said: “Our priority is to switch people who are on solid fuel, oil or all electric systems to a more affordable means of heating. Feedback from those tenants who have benefitted so far has been very favourable.”

Fleur added: “Our programme of energy improvements is geared to improving our properties, furthering our environmental aims and making savings for tenants and this funding means we can do more of that.”
