A Shropshire-based security provider has pledged its support to an initiative which will see the restoration of 24 miles of canal that will bring considerable benefits to local communities along its route.

Shropshire security firm makes a splash with sponsorship deal

Taybar Ltd has become a key sponsor of the Shrewsbury and Newport Canals Trust, an organisation which was formed in 2000 with the aim of re-opening the waterways from Shrewsbury all the way through to the Shropshire Union Canal at Norbury Junction, near Newport.

Steve Taylor, Managing Director of Taybar Ltd, commented: “As a firm we are delighted to be able to offer our support to such a vital project within Shropshire. It is an initiative that is very close to my heart and I am hugely passionate about the work that the Shrewsbury and Newport Canals Trust is doing to bring about regeneration in the area, and I am proud to be a local champion of it.”

As well as the provision of financial support, every one of Taybar’s employees has been signed up as a member of the Trust, which is committed to working together with the local community to restore the waterway and subsequently deliver real, sustainable benefits to the region, including economic growth, increased leisure and employment opportunities, and the stimulation of both urban and rural regeneration.

Bernie Jones, Chairman of the Shrewsbury and Newport Canals Trust, said: “We would like to offer our sincere thanks to the team at Taybar for their very generous donation which will be put to excellent use over the next twelve months. As an organisation we rely heavily on donations, sponsorship and volunteers and without this much valued support this wonderful project would not be possible.”

Anybody interested in finding out more about the work of the Shrewsbury and Newport Canals Trust is urged to get in touch with the team on 01743 761447 or visit www.sncanal.org.uk.
