Party celebrations for Fairtrade Fortnight in Shropshire

The event in Midcounties food store in Welshpool Road, has been arranged by The Midcounties Membership Team and will feature a talk from Basilio Chales Pablo, a Fairtrade coffee grower from Hueheutenango.

Basilio is part of his local co-operative group, The Co-operative Todosanterita, and is visiting the UK to share his experiences and talk about the importance of Fairtrade produce.

Local business The Pudding Pie Cookery School is also attending the event where they will be cooking up a storm and baking Fairtrade coffee cake and Fairtrade chocolate brownies for members and customers to try whilst the membership team will be handing out free Fairtrade recipe cards and coffee.

Members and customers can also take part in a Fairtrade treasure hunt at the store to be in with the chance of winning a Fairtrade hamper stocked full of goodies.

Running from 11am to 4pm, the event will highlight the importance of ethical trading and how Co-operative enterprises help to build a better world.

Rachel Lockett, Membership Development Officer, said: “We have organised this free, fun and engaging event to celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight and help colleagues, members and customers learn about the importance of supporting Fairtrade producers and being part of the wider, international co-operative movement.

“As a responsible, co-operative business we believe in ethical trading and are a leading supplier of Fairtrade goods.”

Fairtrade Fortnight 2013 runs from the 25 February to 10 March and is an annual campaign by the Fairtrade Foundation to raise awareness among UK consumers to buy products which carry the Fairtrade Mark.
