Shropshire Chamber Business Academy, in partnership with the University of Wolverhampton, has successfully held the first in a new series of workshops aimed at supporting Company Directors to fully understand the legal requirements, roles and responsibilities that come with the job title.

The taster session was delivered at the Shropshire Chamber Business Academy on Old Potts Way in Shrewsbury by Dr Silke Machold, Reader in Governance and Ethics at the University of Wolverhampton Business School, and saw over 20 local Directors attend.

Richard Sheehan, Managing Director of Shropshire Chamber of Commerce, explained: “Our research shows that the age profile of many Directors within Shropshire is coming down as companies expand and senior staff retire. Appointments of Directors are often made without a full detailed explanation of the responsibilities and liabilities that come with such an office, and this suite of training will ensure that no nasty surprises occur.”

Bev Aldridge, a recently-appointed Director with Coverage Care Services, attended the session and added: “It’s great to have this information delivered right here in Shrewsbury. As a new Director, I have been looking for this type of support which until now only seemed to have been available in Birmingham.”

The next planned one-day event focuses on Directors’ Roles and Responsibilities and takes place at Shropshire Chamber Business Academy on Tuesday, 19th March. Full details are available from Chris Jones on 01743 236786. The number of available places is limited.
