Newport dentist scoops accolades
A Shropshire dentist is celebrating after receiving two accolades for excellence less than 12 months after opening.

Wycherley’s Dental Practice in Newport not only received a top award for customer service from WhatClinic.com, a healthcare search engine, but was rated excellent after an inspection by the Care Quality Commission.
Dr Ashok Jakhu, who runs the High Street business, said he is thrilled the hard work he and his team have put in has been met by so much praise.
“It means so much to receive such positive reviews from our customers on WhatClinic.com. I am really proud of my business. It was set up less than 12 months ago but since then has flourished.
“I am amazed how in such a short time it has grown and, as a team, we have built an excellent reputation for Wycherley’s, which has seen people travelling from miles around.”
Lisa Richards, account manager for WhatClinic.com said the award is a great achievement for the clinic.
“It is awarded to clinics who rank in the top two per cent on the website,” she said. “It means they are dealing well with all the patient enquiries and getting back to them quickly. We have over 100,000 clinics listed so this is a great achievement.”
Mr Jakhu has much to celebrate after a top report published by inspectors from the Care Quality Commission, regulators of health and social care. The report shows the practice met all standards required.
“We are so happy with this recognition coming up to our one-year-anniversary. It is a great way to celebrate and show all our hard work has been recognised.
“We will have to have a big anniversary party,” he said.
The glowing report states everyone the inspectors spoke to said they had received an “excellent” service.
“People told us that their privacy and dignity was always maintained and that they felt safe and relaxed in surgery,” the report states.
It goes on to praise the clean, hygienic environment and that people who received a service said the surgery always looked clean.
“We saw that the practice has been finished to a high standard. The environment was ‘calming and welcoming’ as it stated in their brochure,” the report states.
Mr Jakhu is hoping to add to his success by entering the prestigious Private Dentistry Awards 2013.
The awards, now in their 12th year, were established to recognise the very best in the private sector of dentistry.
“After opening my dental surgery I knew I had to enter the Private Dentistry Awards as we really do offer such a different atmosphere to other dental practices,” Mr Jakhu said.
“When I bought the High Street building it needed a lot of work which took a lot of imagination but it has been transformed into a modern, state-of-the-art private dental practice whilst staying away from the clinical, white look of most practices.
“We are always continuing with investment to ensure we are at the cutting edge of dental technology.”
“I am hoping now our good work and the great care we take in treating our patients will be recognised by the judges of the award.”
