Telford & Wrekin Council to cut ‘red tape’ to help boost business
Telford & Wrekin Council is about to cut the red tape in order to boost business and promote inward investment opportunities in the borough.

The borough is already bucking the trend for delivery of new homes and is in the Building Magazine’s top 10 authorities for supporting investment.
Now recommendations being made to cabinet will see the planning process streamlined providing free pre application advice to all and swifter decision making to encourage further inward investment.
The Council’s ‘Invest in Telford’ initiative is a pioneering scheme that plans to support growth of the economy, deliver new jobs and make the Borough the destination of choice to live, work, visit and locate.
The report recommends extending the Business & Development Charter which outlines Telford & Wrekin’s commitment to encourage growth opportunities in the borough while being a business supportive and winning council.
The actions to be taken will enable the council, its partners and businesses to deliver more housing, provide more jobs and employment opportunities and generate income that can then be reinvested to support the local economy and put Telford and Wrekin on the map.
Not only does The Business & Development Charter support this, it pledges to focus the council’s efforts on ensuring development viability and promises to attract new business in a very competitive market place while supporting and sustaining all our existing businesses.
Councillor Charles Smith, cabinet member for Housing, Regeneration and Economic Development said: “By removing these barriers we are flying the flag that says Telford and Wrekin is truly open for business!
“Our Business & Development Charter is not an empty promise but a pledge that as a Co-operative Council, we will support all businesses whether this is to start-up, expand or relocate.
“We have also recently launched our new First Point for Businesses and Planning which is a one to shop based at Wellington Civic & Leisure Centre where help will be on hand for anyone needing support of any kind for their business or planning advice.
“The council is absolutely committed to deliver new investment and drumming up new business – this is essential for our economy to survive the difficult times that we are living in.”
