New caring company making a difference

Local Shropshire lady, Rachael Birchall has set up a new company, Home Instead Senior Care, which provides non-medical care services for older people to help them to remain living in their homes.

New caring company making a difference

The company will focus on providing care and companionship to older people across Shrewsbury, Ludlow and Oswestry and are looking to create 40-50 jobs.

Caring has always been a part of owner Rachael’s life, coming from a close family, she has been involved in caring for a number of relatives over the years. She knows first-hand how difficult it can be juggling work, family and a myriad of other challenges, but she also knows what a difference providing quality care and companionship can make to older peoples’ lives.

Rachael is a mother of two and has always been a family person. When her grandmother moved into a flat next door, she looked after her, she explains, “When my grandmother moved into her flat, I’d visit regularly and set up pampering sessions, she really loved the fuss and the company. My paternal grandmother who is 95 and still living in her own home has said to me ‘The hardest part of living alone can be the loneliness if you don’t see one person from one end of the day to the other. What older people really need is someone to talk to or have a cup of tea with, someone who isn’t in a rush to get away.’

Rachael continued, “Not everyone has a large family or friends living close by and I realised that I had been lucky and I wanted to help support older people. In particular I could see the benefit of helping them to be able to stay in their own home with the type of care we provide such as personal care, home help and companionship.

Rachael is very much part of the community, as a volunteer for Age UK and the Alzheimer’s Society. She is also a member of the Rotary Club of Shrewsbury and is on the Community Services and Youth Committee. In addition Rachael is part of the new team which is setting up the Diamond Drop-in Centre in Monkmoor, which is specifically for people living with dementia and also for their carers.

She added, “I truly believe that I can make a remarkable difference to the lives of older people in my local community and am keen to talk to kind, compassionate and like-minded individuals who may be interested in joining our team.”

The Shrewsbury office is the second Home Instead Senior Care office covering the Shropshire area, along with the existing office in Telford.
